Microblog Mondays: Women’s sports – watching is biased too…

As we all know, the recent headlines has been that the Women’s cricket team is doing extremely well in the World Cup tournament.  Even though the viewership has increased to watch women play cricket or any other game, there is this chauvinistic mentality to not watch women play sports and where they doing it extremely good too.

Any sport is a combination of strength and technicality. Some require a need for greater strength, some need more technical execution. Some sports are a treat to the eyes like synchronized swimming or floor exercise in gymnastics; while visual beauty is appreciated, the hard work behind it for such perfect performance is looked over.

The application of strength or technical precision or a mixture of these two, on the arena or field and to remain calm in a tension packed zone and perform well too – all these require the sports person to be well balanced in body and mind.

So why the bias in watching women’s sports and especially those when they are performing well?

Microblog Mondays – The Artist

Cloud-art

First comes the blue
Everywhere in even tones
Spread far and wide
To match the shade
With that of the sea !

Then the white is mixed
In a big tub
The Artist uses a sponge here
Dabs on the white
Then does a little circle
With the hand
Voila ! Creates a cloud pattern !

Patience is the key
The sponge may be wind
The white is cloud
Creating such circular patterns
As though done with a sponge
Just like in an arts class
Except that this Artist
Is World class !

Microblog Mondays – A perfect breakfast

The alarm rings
But I switch it off
And then doze off
To be woken up by a feeling
Of being late
Sigh
Some Mondays begin this way !

Then I hurry
In between sips of coffee
To cook
Plan out things for the day
So that nothing is forgotten !

And when this is what I get
After rushed moments
In the hot kitchen
The smile blossoms
Just like a flower
Its a happy soul
That sees the perfect idly
Soft too
With jackfruit seeds sambar
And Podi
Its a match made in heaven !

WOW !!
What a great beginning to this week
And to this day too !

Microblog Mondays : The cloud above my head :D

download1

There is this cloud
Right above my head !

I feel it following me
Here, there and everywhere…
Just like the little pug of Vodafone
I’ve this cloud, which is my boon 😀

It’s the dark rain cloud
Looks like its ready to burst
And splash on me
The cool waters it stored !

This cloud is between the sun and me
Thereby casts a shadow with a glee
So that I always walk in shade
The cruel sun’s rays I evade
What a wonderful way
To escape the hot slithering sun’s rays !
Oh ! Glory to that rainy cloud !

I caught my mind
And to imaginations, put a rein
Is this possible?
Is this true?
And then I tell myself
That miracles do happen
Console yourself
That cloud is there above
Giving you a shade filled with love 🙂

Microblog Mondays : The resident Hardware stores

The summer’s heat is terrible
And AC is the only bible
For that husband of mine
As he sweats a lot with a whine
The cooling air will make it bearable !

We had an issue
Which I had to pursue
With the electrician
Who will come on the mission
So that the water leak from the AC will discontinue !!

I called him all day
So that he can check before its gray
But things happen their own way
He came when the light was astray !
Opened up the grill and jumped out
To check the leakage
And found the hose-pipe very brittle
But time was too little
To go buy a new pipe
And fix that leakage asap !

Suddenly, my man shouts
“Do you have an hose pipe?”
And I went a total rolling eye
Just like the icon, you see…
Hose pipe ? At home ?
Who runs a Hardware stores here ?
And my man starts grumbling
If this becomes alright
I can sleep in AC tonight
Ahhh ! What bliss it will be !!

And then I told him to wait
Took a chair and pulled a bag
From the loft
And there on top
Was a hose pipe
Which I had saved during my shifting
And the one that saved me a trip
To the Hardware stores.

The electrician did his job
Changed the pipe and was gone
All was set right with AC.
As my man was relaxing
In the cool air
He wonders
“How the hell did you have an hose pipe?”
Little did he knows, that I run
An electrical, hardware and a junk stall too
Which my loft will spew
As the situation falls through !

Microblog Mondays: Addicted, I say !

IMG_20160111_071810

Oh my !! Its the winter skies
Brilliant with cloud patterns
And beautiful hues
That take my breath away
Every morning, day after day
And then the sunsets too !!

As I stand in wonder
In that balcony of mine
My mind calms and the soul wakes up
Its this moment that I wait for everyday
That keeps me going the whole day !!

Then it hits me…
This moment needs to be captured
In lens too.
So that I can tell all those people
Of the amazing sunrise that started off the day !

And so the fingers dance over the tiny keyboard
On that outdated mobile
Instantaneously shared
Without any filter
Of course, on Instagram 😀

Oh yes…it’s out there for the world to see
The sunshine pics and my happiness !
Its a routine now, everyday…
What else to call it ??
Addicted, I say !

Microblog Mondays: My new love is…

INSTAGRAM 😀 😀

instagram

Yes. I joined Instagram quite recently and am loving it.

I feel extremely happy posting “ONLY pics” from my phone.  The fun lies in writing interesting hash tags.  I’m there and trying to make better hash tags.

Somehow, it feels like my picture blog.  I put pics there for my happiness…there ends the matter.  Who’s online at that time – I don’t know – I don’t want to know !  Who’s ignored to LIKE my pic – again, I really don’t want to know !  As I write here for my happiness and I post pics with Instagram, for my self-obsessed happiness.

So, are you on Instagram too ??

Microblog Mondays – God power

Recent statements in the media by a famous personality on the subject of God, didn’t gel with my views.

Where is He ?? This person, who everyone calls God ?? In Temples only ??

Nah…not at all.

According to me, all the places of worship are great energy points where the enlightenment occurs as to the greatest power in this Earth, is our Mind.  There is nothing beyond the power of Mind and what we can do with that power.

Like how we connect with similar thought-minded friends, we connect with the different energies found at the temple or the mosque or the church !!

While there is only one Mosque and one Church, there are thousand and one different temples and therefore, Gods residing in them. So, who is the actual one ??

My theory is that they are places with different energy points. We seek that particular temple, based on the energy required in our life, at that point.  For example, we need courage, confidence, strength, we go to Hanuman temple. To seek prosperity, we visit Lakshmi temple. Its just our different needs that take us to different energy points where we can connect better with our Mind, to achieve what we want. (Thanks to my brother, for this amazingly simple explanation).

Its like how the body craves for certain foods at certain phases in life, the Mind craves for certain energies to connect with so that it becomes more powerful to do a task.

Sounds simple. So, what do you think ??

Microblog Mondays – Love Thyself

Now, sit down on the mat…
Close your eyes and feel the breath you inhale and exhale…
Open your arms wide by your side as you inhale deeply…
Now as you exhale, bring your arms to the front crossing each other to touch your shoulders, thereby giving yourself a nice big hug ! Love yourself first, says the Yoga Teacher.  Once you love what you are doing, you’ll be extremely happy.

I sit back amazed at the simple truth which has been told to us, centuries before by a Sage called Patanjali.

And having forgotten this amazing truth, as it was passed on through many hands, we became critical of ourselves and others.

So, here I am, re-affirming the age old truth, “Love Thyself” and I am extremely happy 🙂

Microblog Mondays – One big truth from Oliver’s Story

Last week, I read Oliver’s Story by Erich Segal, sequel to Love Story. Quite an interesting take on relationships. When Oliver finds a girl again, he thinks this is it. But in his own words, the reader could make out this is not it. Sometimes, the situations, the words communicated all sound so artificial, that it doesn’t make the reader feel the love. I cried so much when Jenny died in Love Story, but I was glad that Marcie was not a part of his life. The characters become so real, for me.

And the big truth which was very obvious was when Oliver really understood what good his dad has done. And this happened when his Dad retired at 65. That’s really a big waste of so many years of misunderstanding each other. A relationship needs proper communication to flourish and exude love. And for this communication, we need to put in some effort and spend some time listening or being there for the other person. But of course, all these, only if we value that relationship so much.

We, as parents, always think about the welfare of our children and decide on certain things. And the child sees the same decision, so differently. So, it is important that parents talk their heart out about their decisions to their children and should also allow their children to counter those decisions from their angle. This healthy communication, builds trust, love and the bonding becomes stronger. And finally, it is easy to agree on a common point, where the parents and the children are happy.

So, as parents, let’s build relationships with our children and not snub them at every opportunity.
