And the Krishna story begins again…

during bedtime, for my younger one.

The story begins…..

Kamsan was taking the newly married bride and groom, who happens to be his beloved sister Devaki and her husband Vasudevan in a chariot. Just then there was a divine voice, which said that Devaki’s 8th child will kill Kamsan. ย So, Kamsan wanted to kill his sister and her husband. But Vasudevan and Devaki pleaded with Kamsan to spare them and promised to give the babies, when they are born to Kamsan. ย So….

Ma, stop…..stop……I dont like this talk by Vasudevan and Devaki….What kind of parents are they ???? Instead of telling that they’ll sacrifice their own lives for the sake of their unborn babies, they agree to give their just-born babies to be killed by Kamsan ???? What kind of justice is this ???? How did the parents agree to get their babies killed ?????

No dear, all these were meant to happen, because only then Krishna will be born as the 8th child and kill Kamsan.

But, instead of allowing all the 7 babies to die in the hands of Kamsan, Krishna could’ve born as the first child na….

The God gave Kamsan, lots of opportunities to correct himself…probably the God was thinking that he might feel bad to kill a child and there by his Asura character might get changed…

Ma, when an Asura does something bad, he needs to be punished rightly and immediately.

My darling, why dont u re-write this story, on your own ???? Lemme catch some sleep…..

I’ve read this Krishna story in different versions and by various authors, but never once did I think like this. Indeed, this is the new age thinking. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. When my son (now 31) was like 4 or 5 , he and his cousins would pester my father for stories, and would literally crush each other on the sofa trying to sit closest to him . Amar Chitra Kathas were around and the pictures there kind of made them believe in stuff. My father had a great knack of animating the conversations in these stories, and these kids would simply sit wide eyed swallowing each event.

They were once listening to the Jatayu story for the nth time, and suddenly my son pipes up, and asks why Hanuman couldnt get the necessary medicine to save him, like he did for Laxman, when he lugged an entire mountain (when he couldnt place the Sanjivani tree).

I think in my time, we took whatever we heard as the unchangeable truth. That’s how stuff happened. These kids treat all the happenings in the epics by today’s standards.

And I absolutely agree with your daughter.

    1. Thats a valid point….but I think there’s an explanation. Hanuman was cursed to forget abt his flying abilities. He remembered them only when someone reminded him, when he was chosen to go to Lanka to find out where is Sita….am I right ????

Thats the way the scriptures too have changed….U shld read Ramayana by Ashok Banker…

      1. The trouble is, to the kids, Hanuman’s flying, was like swimming and cycling; once you learned it, you never forgot it. And all the business with permissions was never remembered. The fact that Maruti was a kind of saviour was supreme in the minds of these kids.

But what you say about the story is so true.

I used to ask these too… I was like “God “knows” everything, so why does he have to experiment and cause a lot of destruction and everything before good wins over evil? Not fair.” blah blah ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. Yes these days kids are smarter.. I remember a mail which i read around 5 years earlier.. when his mom narrated this story, he asked his mom why didnt kamsan put both of them in seperate cells.. that way he could have prevented the whole drama and thus the whole mahabharatha! quite funny yet clever.. Well, i must brace myself as i too will face these questions in a few months soon
