Full Circle – 2

Have you read that “History Repeats Itself” ?????

The 80’s :

Exams are coming. Its time to revise and learn the lessons. The portions are vast – What vast ??? The whole book. And nobody questioned the school authorities on that. Neither did the students struggle with competition. (I think that’s topic for another post, which is getting ready. 😉 )

She is busy reading for her exams, when suddenly she realises its 9pm in the night. And being an Night Owl, she feels that she’s become more alert at this time. She learns her lessons more quickly and never does fatigue attack her at this time.

But her younger sister is already on Cloud 1 dreaming away to glory, at 9pm. Her eyes just can’t remain open after that cut-off time. So, how does she manage to revise ???? She gets up, when Japan wakes up….Oh No, joking…..she’s up as early as 4am and starts studying, which the elder one can’t even think of. 4am is like mid-night for the elder one.

The mother goes mad in-between these two girls, who keep the light ON – one keeps it ON late into the night and the other starts very early in the morning.

Now :

Sr is following the Elder one (who is none other than her own mother…..thats me…. 😉 ). She is happily studying and revising through the night.

Sh is following the Younger Sister, by hitting the bed when the clock hits 9’o clock, in the night. Its slumber time for Sh. 🙂

The mother keeps company for Sr, till late night, making her some warm lemon tea, to keep her going.

As per instructions by Sh, the mother wakes her up at morning 5am and keeps her company too….

All is fine…the girls are studying….but does the mother gets a proper sleep ????

History is repeating and the mother is mad at losing sleep….. 😉

  1. My mother has never kept me company during the nights I sit up late….or wake up early. She has sacrified a lot for me, but sleep is something that she simply wont give up. I initially used to resent it…but later came to realise that different people have different tastes.
It however went on to help me become independent and mind my own things becoz I didnt expect ppl to pick up after me.

However thats my story. THis one sounds cute 🙂 All I can say is…your girls are lucky…

Wow. I dont even remember ever having “revised” the week when the exams are happening are the ones i’m always super sleepy !! and ALL the other days and nights of the year too 😀 😀 😀

this is how i used to revise:
i’d tell my mom i’m going to try one of those mock tests…esp maths…and not to disturb me fr 3 hours. not even if the sky falls down. then i’d set an alarm for after 3 hrs and happily go to sleep 😀 😀
this during day time…and by night, am soooo tired doing mock “mock tests”, i need my sleep, dont i!? 😀

  5. 🙂 My parents never stayed up during those night study times. Mom used to read till late in her room but because she was a working mom I learned to be self sufficient at an early age.
My elder one is a late sleeper and prefers that we stay away.
Younger one never studied during night. 😀
I ,like mom, read till late and many a times asked Adi if he would like me to keep him company. His reply was ,” this is not a bloody night out mom, back to your room.”
I decided it was best for my health to curl up and sleep :p
One thing I made sure was to keep a steady supply of stuff he could eat ,drink if he wanted without creating a racket in the middle of the night.

  6. Aww! Uma, you are so cute! I was a very good daughter – would never make my mom stay awake – I would sleep at 9 🙂 My parents were scared I would flunk my 10th because everybody else was burning the midnight oil or waking up really early 🙂

I hope to train daughter to make her own night time snacks if she wants to stay awake 🙂

    1. LOL Smithu…its always a parent’s nightmare if their kids dont study- yeah, those were the days.

Good idea…teach Poohi all that she needs. But the mother in us, will never rest, when the kid is awake in another room, studying. 🙂

  8. I know how difficult it should be for mothers to wake up all night! I’m nocturnal, and my reading time starts only at 10.00 PM. My mom will be awake all the night and prepares me hot tea atleast 2-3 times! I really don’t know if I will be doing this justice to my child in the future!
