Read this at Aaroo’s !!!! Β Isn’t it so sweet ???? I loved this post. And I wanted to write something in the comment….then realised its better to post the thought. So, here it is.
My daughter, Sh, created a Gmail Account for my amma, about 6 months back. She taught her patti, to login, check the inbox and to send mails.
My amma, patiently took notes, as if it was some CA class going on…never feeling inhibited at learning from her grandchild. Hugs to you, amma. π
Then it started. What ??? The phone calls. Every week, any time, my amma logs into her computer and her account, she’ll have a doubt and she never hesitated to ask me or my sister to clarify them.
Sometimes, it’ll be like “How should I add a new contact ??” “Where are the old contacts saved??” “Gmail is not opening…what could be the problem??” “Some virus message is coming..what does it mean ???” …. Many more like this…I was happy and amazed at her childlike quality to know more and learn all that is to do with mastering this art of sending mails.
Then she wanted to know how to send pictures and how to open the ones send by others… π π
She doesn’t have a FB account yet, but I’ll not be surprised if she gets one soon. π π
She loves using the Gmail’s tamizh typing feature and all her mails to the family members are in tamizh. Β Now a days, she doesn’t call us, first thing in the morning, rather she logs in to mail a wish. π Β And I am so proud of her. π
Now, the WWW doesn’t scare her, rather the web is under control… π π
Wow!! That’s so cool and so very sweet!! Oh yes, age is no bar for learning!
Few years ago, my mom learnt to solve Sudoku from my sister, and today she is a pro and solves all the Sudoku puzzles, wherever (even if the newspaper bag has it) she sees one!!
Hugs to both the Moms! π
Cheers π

I did the same though not to this extent like using the www altogether..but what little my grandma can do is to read my blog π Yea she reads it,on and off though, and when I call her we discuss on the topics π
I love that yearning for learning and no hesitation to get lessons from whichever age…that’s the spirit I must say and I salute to the people who exhibit this spirit π

This post really made me smile. This is how I taught my mother to use the net. Made her accounts on facebook, skype, gmail, hotma il and yahoo…of which skype is what she uses often to video chat with me. She logs into the rest only if required.
And then of course the non-stop calls start when she decides to log into any one of them π LOL … too cute π

LOL !!! She calls u non-stop when she wants to login…oh, my amma did that in the initial stages…so, let me wait to introduce her to more sites… π π
Of course, they all think that Skype is the only link between them and their children…everyone staying out of the country… π

I’m sure your mom is excited about this new way of interacting with her grandchildren π Kudos to her!
But I’m not surprised, because previous generation is always open to learning, is what I feel. Coz my Grandpa @ the age of 80, went to computer class and learnt them way back in 1990s; Today my Grandma is trying her hands in skype to chat with me!
BTW, those questions reminds me of how I taught my mom to use internet, add pictures etc…

Cool grandma, and great teacher π I am a true believer of age being no bar for learning. In fact sometimes I feel that we definitely need to learn more as we age, the speed at which world is going π Hubby’s dad is an ardent “www”er and his mom had to learn how to operate computer when she left home to visit us for three months, so that she can be in touch with him π All my aunts right now are having so much fun in farmville, I keep getting phone calls asking why I am ignoring their request to join farmville!
