TUIDA presents Tale of Haruk

If there is something that hits me throughout the show, every second and every minute, its CREATIVITY at its height.

WOW, What all creative things these group of Koreans have done.

I was stunned to see, to hear, to feel the emotions, portrayed so effortlessly by this group of young people.

The five young people who won hearts through their expressions.

They were a group of happy people, trying to tell the story of Haruk. Just look at the instruments used….bottles tied in a string to produce different sounds, a terracota bowl on head, a steel bowl in the neck, two water cans held in-between the legs and in the hand. And the music produced by all these is just fabulous. This creativity in making their own instruments from re-cycled materials certainly deserves special mention.  And the music that comes out of it, is certainly divine.

The musical instruments

Just see the plastic bottles tied in some fashion, to give music !!!  The pole kind of thing on to the right, is filled with pebbles / marbles. So, rotating it upside down, produces a superb sound to match the eerie feelings, a monster will create.

Do you see the brown thing next to the drum ???? Next to it, do u see the velcro roll ???? There is crushed foil paper too….All these are used to produce different sounds for different situations….My God, I sat stumped looking at the simple and artistic usage. 🙂

Then, I need to talk about the masks – brilliantly done !!!! Just look at these….

The old man and woman - parents of Haruk

They are very young, but just look how these masks transform the way, they look !!!! Don’t they look really old ???? The way they carry themselves as old people, certainly deserves mention. They both were brilliant. 🙂

The masks used

The four pictures to the corner is Haruk – a man inside the covers, with a mask !!!  The ones in the centre too is one of the face masks to depict the monstrous growth by Haruk – that one filled up the stage – Too huge !!! 🙂

The story is pretty simple – An old man and woman, living in the mountains, feel quite lonely. After praying to the Tree Spirit, they are blessed with a child, Haruk – but there is a clause attached to this – The child should be fed only dew drops. After making the promise, the old couple find joy in bringing up Haruk. The way they teach him words and stuff, is really interesting. 🙂  The old couple love Haruk so much, to desperation. 🙂

But, one day, Haruk starts demanding rice, as he sees the old couple eating them. But they are scared to give him rice. On crying and whining, Haruk gets his wish. He gets to eat rice. But once he eats that, he grows into a monster, whose hunger never fades. He starts eating people, trees, the sun, the moon and anything he sees. But still he feels hungry.

The old couple are torn to tears, to hear Haruk’s cry for food – he is forever hungry. They don’t have anything else to feed him. So, they offer themselves as food for Haruk.  They just love him so much, that they were unable to tolerate his hunger cries.

This version of parental love just moved me to tears. WOW, is this possible ???

Last, but not the least, the Sir Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, is fantastic with its acoustics and seating arrangement. It was more pleasurable experience to be seated in that hall.

The Concert Hall

Finally, all the audience were taken to more levels of happiness, with a photo shoot with the troop. WOW, the children had so much fun, I tell you.

The troop

On the whole, a fantastic experience and a totally unforgettable one, really.

Thanks to NalandaWay, the AAA-2010 is ROCKING Chennai !!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

    1. Yeah, its a sort of open end play – you can think of the parental love or the greed with which ppl eat up others….

Thanks Pal. 🙂 This auditorium is in Harrington Road, Chetput, inside Lady Andal School campus. 🙂 My first visit to the hall and I was quite impressed. 🙂
