Children of the world – BEWARE !!!!

November 19th is the World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse !!!!

Child abuse is the physical or psychological/emotional mistreatment of children.  There are four major categories of child abuse: neglect, physical abuse, psychological/emotional abuse, and sexual abuse.

Child abuse occurs in a child’s home, or in the organizations, schools or communities the child interacts with.

It’s quite shocking to read about abuses in the school, where the children are scared to complain about their teachers.  We are in such a sad state that the parents too, take a back seat in not complaining.

The Sunday Express, two days back, carried a news item on the Molester Tutors !!!!!   Not only the teachers, the children need to be away from the van / bus drivers and cleaners.

Why do parents go and hide behind their prestigious social image, when their own kid is being abused ???????

Why do they hesitate to complain ??????

If they dont complain the first time, then the abuses will increase, isn’t it ?????

Because you paid a hefty donation to the school, you dont need to keep quiet, when your child is being abused !!!!!!

Please, please, please WAKE UP, PARENTS !!!!

Educate your child, by educating yourself in the process. Learn the Good touches from the  Bad touches and make your child aware of those.

Please go thru the following link, to understand the basics of Good and Bad Touch.

It is very essential that every child is educated on this and if any unforeseen things happen, please make a complaint.  Dont ever hesitate to bring such matters to public notice.

Parents, please make note and lets all join hands to prevent child abuse !!!!

It’s the right of every child to have a safe childhood and the responsibility of the parent to provide the same.

  1. Hmm gud one .. we shud learn to speak up when required. We shud nt be waiting for things to get better by themselves .. they may not 😦

Me : And moreover, we shld teach the kids to speak up !!!! And the parents shld be warm and approachable for the kids.

  2. Good one…
Parents first need to teach their children that they can come to them for anything and that parents can be trusted…
    Me : Absolutely !!!
We need to speak up and we also need to trust our children when they come to us with such complaints!
    Me : Totally agree with u !!

I remember my friend, she was abused by her coach and when she told that at home, she was beaten up for telling lies!!!!
Me : Very sad. But incidents like these, will make the kids go into a shell and they’ll never open up and talk.

Good post Ums! Hard-hitting and right on target!

  3. It is so traumatic for the kids. These statistics are really sad. You just cannot make out who is a pervert. The kids of today are really at risk. We can all help spread the message and help get the perpetrators punished.

Me : If the number of ppl who question and complain on such incidents, increase, then automatically, these kind of abuses will reduce. Its the silence on the parents side, which is helping these molesters to thrive and survive.

  4. We tend to teach children to blindly respect, obey and even fear all adults. If any adult complains against the child, we believe them and assume the child is lying. Most parents don’t really talk ‘to’ their children – the child is discussed like he is a fool, the truth is children are also little people, and what they say should be taken seriously.

I had taught my kids that everybody, young or old deserved respect, and everybody young or old could be wrong, and they were not to be in awe of someone just because they had lived a few more years.
Me : Thats very gud, IHM. Its what we, as parents, teach our kids, that matters. We parents can make a difference. We shld raise our voice when things are not right.

Anybody making a child uncomfortable should be taken very seriously, good touch bad touch and any touch that the child doesn’t want, or even any behaviour that a child might find unpleasant or uncomfortable – very relevant post Uma!!

If any adult complains against the child, we believe them and assume the child is lying/doesn’t understnad. I didn’t even know there was a day for this. But I am glad there is.
Me : I read abt it in the news paper. Even I didnt know abt it before. The whole of last month, IE sunday magazine covered the different abuses that ppl face in this society and My God, it was shocking to read them all. I couldnt continue reading, after some time. Too shocking.

  6. We have separate days for each and every damn thing ! But you still find such psychos roaming around ! 😦
Me : The psychos need a solid punishment for not repeating those abuses. But, who’ll nail them all ????

  7. Child abuse is a fear which haunts all parents……I cannot even think of putting my fears into words. And as they grow older we cannot be with them all the time. Every thing IHM said above makes so much sense!!!!

And finally I just kneel down and pray[the tears automatically roll down] asking the good Lord to protect the children !!!!!
Me : Yeah, we shld pray, for the protection of our kids !!! But, we can also point out the culprits to the society, if we know of any !!! We shld open up, talk and complain, if necessary !!!

  8. It’s important to educate the children about this and ways and means to counter it by avoiding such rogues… The topic is very relevant to the current era and happenings…
Me : Right Suji !!! Educating the child is the basic step and thats what we shld do first. Then we shld listen to the child, if they want to talk abt something. Listening is a great art which the parents shld learn.

  9. Most kids face abuse in one form or other. And if childhood is safe and secure, then eve teasing or domestic violence attacks! Not only women but men too. does this ever end ?

Me : Its never ending, becos, so many ppl keep quiet abt this abuses. Bringing such incidents to the public eye, can see a improvement of the situation.

  10. Parents must give freedom to their children to speak about whatever happens in the school and must believe what they are saying.. if a child shares all the things with the parents then there will be no problem at all, I believe..

Me : Yes, Kanagu, you are right. The children shld feel very comfortable with the parents to talk abt anything they feel. And its the parents who can make this happen.

  11. Very good post, Uma. Kids really are so vulnerable. Its parents like us who must educate them that other people must not be allowed to come too close to them.

In India, we have this weird practise of old women coming to take a look at a new born/infant/toddler’s genitals. I find it disgusting! Isnt that also a form of abuse?!

Me : Pal, that weird practise is absolutely disgusting…What do those oldies want to know ?????? 🙄

  12. yup!!!!!!!!!!

child abusers belong to the worst possible hell!!!!!!! if such a thing exists!!!!
Me : We shld show those abusers, what real hell can be….punish them hard enough, that they dont have the strength to stand again.

I know a few cases where this has happened to my frds!!!! really bad experience!
Me : Really ???? Ur frnds ???? How sad !!!!

  13. Great point you have brought up Uma. And I agree with IHM’s thought that children are sometimes instructed to blindly respect others. It is very important to talk to them about good and bad.

Here our children’s pediatrician tells them during wellness visits that only mom or their doctor can look at their body. I found it interesting the first time I heard it. Then it made sense.
Me : The situation is under the public eye, in US, I believe. The exposure is so much more, that educating the child begins very early.
The sex education is still not being done by schools, in India – even though it is part of the curriculam. While in US, its taught at a very young age – Educating the kids is the basic thing to do !!!
