HAARAM.COM, STOP POSTING OUR POSTS ON YOUR SITE WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!

A bunch of us bloggers have noticed that you have listed our blogs and have been copying our entire posts on to your site for which we neither signed up nor gave explicit permission. Hence would appreciate if you could stop doing that and take our blogs off your site ASAP.

Consider this a gentle reminder from our end..for now.

We may not be so gentle the next time, for this is a serious issue of copyright violation..

Thank you

Copying is the best form of flattery ! But then…I understand the angst.

That is an “aggregator”, so, technically, the owner isn’t “copying” but merely reproducing with your name as the author – it usually is a lot worse when you are not acknowledged, in which case it is a case of downright plagiarism. So, although it does feel ethically wrong to quote you without permission, I am not sure it is legally wrong. After all, this is the Internet and when we choose to open out in the internet, we are open to being cited. Not fair, but true.

This is a lot like the “blogroll” that many of us have in our blogs. I don’t think we need the permission of the author to blogroll them. There is one blogsite called “blogs I read” which features mine. I have no idea who the owner is, but I can’t do much about it because, well, he/she has merely bookmarked me, albeit on a public domain. As long as the owner of the blogroll/aggregator does not make money on his/her site by citing us, I am not sure we can do much.

The area of internet privacy is an extremely dicey area.
