Car or Bus ????

I need to go to Mylapore, for shopping. I’ll better leave early after breakfast, so that I can be back for lunch.

Ok, tell you what, I’ve a client meeting somewhere there and so, I can drop you at Mylapore.

Oh !!! No need. You just carry on with your office work. I can manage. I’ll take the train and you know, I love going by trains.

But, why do you need to travel by train, when I can drop you in our car ?????  Its OK, if you don’t want to come with me !!!!

🙄 🙄     But I want to go by train.

I am going to the library today. I need to return these books today, at any cost. It’s already past due date.

OK, get ready soon. I’ll drop you there while I go to office. Anyway, library is on the way.

Oh !!! Don’t you bother. I’ll manage on my own.

Its OK, if you don’t want to come with me !!!!

Oh, dear !!! How can I explain to this dear man of mine that I love to go with him in the car.  It’s not that I avoid the travel with him.  It’s actually a warm feeling inside the heart, when I travel in the car, sitting beside him, listening to our favourite old tamil hits.  Nothing can match this blissful travel with him.  But, still, me being me, I love the public transport system. What to do ???

Being born and brought up in Mylapore, somehow the crowds formed a major part of my life. It’s always filled with people wherever I go and I’ve got so used to it.  It’s such a comforting feeling that I am not alone in this world.  Whatever time I go out, I see people always running for something or other. Actually, its full of life.  People want to live their life to the fullest. They want to survive and they are fighting against everything to sustain themselves in this world. I like this. Actually, I love this life full of people.

And I’ve always used the public transport from a very young age.  I used to think that Autos are not safe – those were the days of Auto Shankar, who kidnapped girls and raped them, posing as an auto driver.

So, the buses have been my second home, where I spent most of my time – travelling.  And it is indeed such a pleasure to take the longest bus route and have a fav book to keep company.  The moving crowd, the constant bhak bhak, the little fights with the conductor for not giving proper change, are all so lively to watch and be a part of. And the book reading in-between all these hungama, is so much interesting.  These bus journeys have actually helped me to read a lot of books during my teenage and later.

I had missed going by buses, when I had two little girls along with me. Since I was unable to handle to both of them in a bus, where one will be running helter skelter and I might be going mad, I took to the auto.  But still my heart was with the buses.

Hyderabad proved a great challenge, where only Telugu name boards welcomed me everywhere. I just couldn’t make out where a bus is going. So, stuck with autos there too.

Back in Chennai, I am having a great time, travelling by the public transport, to my heart’s fill.  And the girls with me on these journeys, is so satisfying to my heart. And again, I am back to reading books during my travel time.  It’s just the feeling of being transported back to my teenage years and I am enjoying every moment of it.

This particular bus which I board to take my girls to their dance classes, actually goes till the Marina Beach. So, everyday I get to see the loads of people, who are on their way to their beach for an evening out there.  All the little boys and girls, all excited and totally dressed up for a wonderful evening in the beach – Oh, what wonderful days !!!!  Their mothers are constantly shouting at them to be together, but their non-stop chatter is more loud to hear what their mom is telling them. They are laughing without worries and I enjoy the whole scene in front of me.

So, all said and done, the public transport is still the favourite travel option for me.  And given a choice, I’ll choose it first.

But I might take to the luxury which my dear husband is offering, to see that smile on his face. 🙂
